!!POLYVORE!!

So I have this slight obsession with this site polyvore and it’s basically the combination of 2 of my favorite things: collaging and fashion.

I figured I’d share with you a few of my sets and inspire some of you to create your own, its worth it really.

Bands everyone should know.

After chatting with many of my friends about music and mentioning bands that I assume are quite popular (due to their brilliance or just the magnitude of people I know who listen to them) and getting black stares and confused responses I thought what better way to relieve my frustration than to Introduce a band or a couple that really everyone should know of but may not.

Of Montreal

Of Montreal

I heard about this band a few years ago, like 2007-ish and thought they were awesome but never really looked into it. Then mid 2008 was introduced to them again on a music blog. I downloaded a couple of their songs, but like most new bands that I find they got lost in the multitude of other music on my iTunes and semi-forgotten. Last year my a cappella group ended up doing one of their songs and that was the beginning of my love affair with Of Montreal.

They started in Athens, Georgia and in 1997 came out with their album Cherry Peel with a bunch of funny but good songs.

Now their latest album False Priest is a lot different than where they started out but still holds true to their unique sound and sassy lyrics.

Songs to download -

Gronlandic Edit – from the album Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?

Bunny Ain’t No Kind Of Killer – Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?

For Our Elegant Castle – Skeletal Lamping

Id Engager – Skeletal Lamping

a great site for downloading :)

NEWS FLASH: Dead Due to DKNY

Ok, so I got an update from NYLON about DKNY’s preview to the Resort collection coming out this fall and I nearly cried. Other than the fact that I can’t afford ANYTHING but thrift store finds due to my college student budget, these clothes are a must have. The looks are edgy and cool but still classy enough to wear to a nice dinner or to a job interview. I think that I’d wear almost all of the looks from the preview and DKNY is definitely headed in the right direction and seems to be targeting a new kind of New York girl. I like this girl.

Take a look for yourself:

Hayley, iloveyou.

So ever since I can remember loving alternative pop rock-ish kinda stuff Paramore was my shit. My 7th grade angsty pre-teen rebel without a cause self thought that Paramore was like the coolest band ever. Not just because “Pressure” was the most listened to song on my CD Player or because I was inspired to rock skinny jeans (best decision of my life) but because Hayley Williams was the lead singer. Alternative bands with girls at the front (especially with an all male band otherwise) were hard to come by. Even harder to find was a girl at the head of the band who wasn’t trying to be a sex pot [read: sell-out] to get attention. An if you can believe it she can actually sing. I know, shocker.

Recently, my love for Paramore, and more specifically Hayley Williams has grown and changed. I’m not as big of a fan of their music anymore, but as time goes by Hayley evolving fashion choices are as organic and uniquely tom-boy chic as their first record. Hayley’s flirtation with Gwen Stefani inspired glamour is a dream come true for fashion forward alt chicks everywhere.

This first look is slightly more glam than the All We Know Is Falling era, when she and her band mates were barely out of high school, but still in the beginning stages of Hayley finding her style appropriate for a 21 y.o. and not a 13 y.o.

The second look, slightly more mature, still playful and young but put together. She’s shed the rebel without a cause look and really found her groove, plus the hair cut is brilliant. Even though her music isn’t as raw and guitar heavy as before she still seems to strike a chord with my emotions (The Only Exception seems like she wrote the story of my love life). And I still love the orange hair.

It’s the MO FAUX mofo…

So apparently the world couldn’t go without jelly fashion. Typically I have a deep hatred for anything clear plastic and fashion related (the Melissa sneaker trend made my eyes bleed.) So when I heard about the Jelly knock off of the Moto bag by Balenciaga I though that some one clearly had one too many bad ideas. Then the NYLON feed popped up on my facebook and I was converted to a believer. The bag doesn’t look quite as cheap as I’d have imagined and the styling is surprisingly close to the original. The bag comes in hot pink and florescent yellow the Mo Fauxwhich adds a playfulness that isn’t found in the original bag. Unfortunately the bag is only available in Japan, for now, but when it gets stateside I’ll be the first in line. All I need is a matching rain slicker…

International Fashion Week (underground edition)

Everyone knows about the Paris and Milan fashion weeks filled with the likes of Chanel, Jean Galliano, Christian Dior etc. But really, when every corner of Manhattan is filled with the Chanel C’s and sky high Dior stillettos, unique and interesting inspiration is hard to come by. I’ve got your answer here ---->

Cristiano Bulani | Mozambique Fashioncristiano bulani Week Winter 2010.

When I saw this I nearly died, I thought <<Lady GaGa concert then drinks at the SupperClub>> I’d wear the whole outfit with holed up black sheers and a cut pair of black booties, or if I was trying to be a little daring pair the shorts with a lace top and a cute cardigan and heels.

I need this dress in my closet now! With stilettoes and a cute clutch or paired with a cardigan and cowboy boots its super functional because its a pretty simple dress with a little funk. I’d wear it every day. Really.

I love this look the cute simple dress that has a bit of sheen to dress it up and the two tone fur vest. Plus the dress has pockets, done deal.

If there was ever an excuse for dressing like Lady Gaga (as if you’d need one) this designer would be it. I’m not sure if I’d be braze enough to sport either of these around campus, but they are enough to inspire hours of fashion day dreams.

These designers are edgy and different and still offer the kind of sophistication and fashion forward-ness as many of the big designers with out the hype of the big lable. If I weren’t on a college students budget, they would be mine, but inspiration is what I’ll settle for and the fabric store is always an option. DIY fashion is always the best (with practice of course).

The Inception… of course.

So, this is my first post. I guess a little background is in order. This is the brainchild of an 18 y.o. girls boredom and need to share with the world her interesting view on things. Of course for all of you whom adore thifting, vintage, bands no one has ever heard of and outrageous art (comme David LaChapelle et all) you will find this quite comfy. Let this adventure begin.
